Under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Lebanese Association for Coexistence and Development (LACODE) hosted a heartfelt ceremony in Baalbek to celebrate the top-performing students from schools across the Baalbek–Hermel district. What might have been a routine awards event became, instead, a warm community gathering—one that placed students’ effort, families’ sacrifices, and teachers’ devotion at the center of the story.

From the moment families began to arrive, the atmosphere felt more like a reunion than a formal ceremony. Principals greeted former pupils with pride; classmates traded nervous smiles as they adjusted sashes and straightened certificates; parents passed around phones to frame the perfect photo. Teachers—some carrying stacks of student projects, others clutching small bouquets—stood to the side, equal parts beaming and tearful.

The Minister’s message was clear and reassuring: education remains the country’s most reliable bridge to opportunity, and achievement in the classroom deserves public recognition. The remarks highlighted not only grades and rankings but also the resilience these students have shown—studying late, commuting long distances, lending a hand at home, and still showing up ready to learn. In a place where daily life can be demanding, perseverance itself becomes a kind of excellence.

LACODE’s role was equally central. As its name promises—coexistence and development—the association used the evening to weave together the many threads that make a community strong. Beyond applauding academic distinction, organizers emphasized values that don’t fit on a transcript: teamwork, service, mentorship, and the courage to imagine a different future. Representatives spoke about expanding school–community partnerships, supporting teachers with practical resources, and creating more chances for students to lead.

The program moved swiftly but left room for small, human moments—applause that lingered a little longer for a quiet student who found her voice this year; an impromptu embrace between a teacher and a graduate heading to university; a parent wiping away a proud tear as a name was called. Certificates and simple mementos were presented, but the real gifts were the words—personal notes of encouragement, acknowledgments of effort, and promises to keep opening doors.

Several students shared reflections that resonated with the audience. They spoke about the classmates who quizzed them before exams, the teachers who stayed after hours, and the families who believed in them even when they doubted themselves. They also spoke about what comes next: studying fields that will bring new skills back to the region, tutoring younger students, volunteering with local initiatives, and carrying forward the spirit of coexistence that LACODE champions.

By the end of the evening, the applause felt less like a closing and more like a beginning. The students left with certificates in hand and a wider circle behind them—ministry officials, educators, civil society partners, and neighbors—ready to cheer their next steps. Baalbek–Hermel has always been known for its history and resilience; on this night, it was also known for its scholars.
